Music
Star of the Sea Catholic Primary School has an extensive Music Program.
Every student from Pre-primary to Year 6 having an engaging music lesson each week singing, dancing and playing instruments. Year 3 to Year 6 students are taught drums, keyboard and ukulele in addition to the normal curriculum. There are also many opportunities for students to be involved in music beyond their music classes.


LEARNING
Music classes include:
- Choir: rehearse twice a week and sing at school Masses, liturgical celebrations (First Holy Communion and Confirmation) assemblies, special events (Harmony Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, NAIDOC, Sorry Day, ANZAC Day, Remembrance Day), Open Day, One Big Voice at RAC Arena and Rockingham Community Fair.
- Band: Students in Year 5 and 6 audition for the school band. They play at school Masses, liturgical celebrations (First Holy Communion and Confirmation) assemblies, special events (Harmony Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, NAIDOC, Sorry Day, ANZAC Day, Remembrance Day), open night, Catholic Performing Arts and Rockingham Community Fair. Each year the band get to write a song and this year is a sustainability song called ‘Sustain It.’
- Music Leaders: Four Year 6 students assist in promoting music in our school.
- Students mentored: students are encouraged to write songs and develop their music abilities.
LEARNING
Music events include:
- Catholic Performing Arts: This year we have entries in ‘Contemporary Band’ and ‘Dance.’ There are also opportunities for solo entries for outstanding students.
- SOTS Got Talent: This is a non competitive celebration of all the talent we have in the school which includes singing, dancing, playing instruments, gymnastics etc. Everyone is encouraged to be involved and a selection of items are chosen for a school concert.
- Special Events: Harmony Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, NAIDOC, Sorry Day, ANZAC Day, Remembrance Day.
- Christmas Concert: each year level sing a Christmas Carol.
