MJR focus for the week

TEAMWORK AT HOME (TAH)

So often we are asked to do a small job by parents or teachers and so often we moan and groan and mentally we say we will do it later – like after the TV show or tomorrow. Often parents or teachers then get annoyed. If you are positive and say “certainly” and go and do the job:

  1. You feel good
  2. It is done and you don’t have to worry about it
  3. Parents and teachers are pleased and don’t have to remind you

SOTS Mission Focus 2022

“Making Connections with our Friends in Ndoromo School in South Sudan”

It is our hope, that the children and families of Star of the Sea CPS will reach out to make a connection with the children and families of Ndoromo School in South Sudan. To assist in this, we have made 120 beautiful cards which we would like to sell for $5 each to children/families/group of friends at SOTS. We ask that the purchased card then be addressed to ‘a friend’ at Ndoromo School with a special message written by the child/family who have purchased the card. The card then needs to be returned to SOTS for us to post all 120 cards to Ndoromo School when they are complete, along with any funds raised ($5 x 120 = $600) which we hope will buy some more play/sports equipment for the children in South Sudan so they can enjoy their time playing together.

Kirra has done the artwork of Our Lady Star of the Sea on the cover. We have attached a Guardian Angel Medal in each card. A sticker on the back sends a message from the whole school and explains the making and purpose of the card. Cards will be on sale in the undercovered area each morning from Wk 8 until sold.

When Sr Catherine came for her visit in Term 1, she shared the great progress the school has made following the amazing financial support from SOTS raised during our Mission Project Fundraiser Walkathon. The school that nearly closed due to lack of funds is now thriving with families assisting in repairs and improvements and enrolments increasing. Sr Catherine reported that the reputation of the school is very good and it is being well managed. St Catherine brought some letters and photos of some of the senior students who have written lovely letters of introduction to their ‘friends at Star of the sea CPS’. They speak highly of their school and teachers and their letter writing standards are impressive.

Out of School Hours Care News

Hi Families,

On behalf of the OSHC team we would like to welcome all the new families that have joined this term, we hope it has been a positive experience for you and your child(ren).

Term 2 is flying, and our OSHC family have been busy with several new activities introduced this term!

A big hit has been the introduction of our after-school clubs; including, photography on Monday’s, dance class on Tuesday’s, cooking on Wednesday and Arts and crafts on Thursdays, which run between 3:30-5pm weekly (excluding school holidays).

There are still spaces available if your children would like to join, feel free to reach out to one of our friendly OSHC staff for a registration form.

Due to high enrolments this term we have continued to split the children into separates areas based on age, this has been very beneficial for children and educators allowing more space for the children to be involved in activities. It has allowed us to plan and program more age-appropriate activities to these separate groups.

This term we have been doing a number of fun activities including cooking, playdough making, obstacle courses, paper plane making, gymnastics, Mother’s Day crafts, fort making, laser tag and construction.

If you require vacation care for your child for the next school holidays (4th-15th of July) please book in or email us to secure your spot by the 30th of June!

The OSHC staff would like to thank you for your support throughout the term and remind you our door is always open!

We look forward to seeing you in the weeks to come!

From your SOTS OSHC Team! 😊

Early Learning Centre Care News

It is hard to believe that we are already halfway through the year. At the ELC we are continuing with our school preparedness journey. Now that we have our self-help skills mastered, we are exploring our name recognition and basic writing of our names. We continue to explore our interest in books as we expand our imagination and vocabulary through our Paint Rockingham REaD program.

As we approach the second half of the year, we would like to remind our families who are interested in the 4-year extension program to fill out the forms and hand them back to the ELC.  This is part of our 5-day Kindy program that is available to the children who are enrolled in the school for Kindy 2023.

Gateway

Hello! Fr. Pier here.

I pray you are well.

Every year we have parents of our Catholic schools students who choose to revive or explore their Catholic journey.

In the past we offered the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), which helps to understand the contents of our faith.

Something was missing: a space where people could deepen their personal relationship with Jesus and our community.

This space is essential: with a living relationship with Jesus, the Catholic journey is a joy. Without it, it is a chore.

People will gauge with their leaders when they are ready to move towards RCIA, which is more like headspace.

This year we started from this space of experience, which we called Gateway.

We have just started.

If you wish to deepen your journey or start it altogether, you are welcome – come with your personal story.

  • What: Gateway. We share a meal, some insight, our experiences, and prayer.
  • When: on Tuesdays at 6.30 pm
  • Where: the presbytery, on the left of the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes.
  • Contact: Pierluigi.Vajra@cewa.edu.au. For catering purposes, it would be great if you let us know.

I hope to see you there!
